Steel Gates & Railings in Banbury

Bespoke steel and metal gates and railings, fabricated to measure in our own Banbury workshop, galvanised and powder-coated for the weather, then installed by our own team.

For: Homeowners, estates and commercial or industrial sites

T C Rowan designs, fabricates and installs bespoke steel and metal gates and railings from our own workshop on Thorpe Way Industrial Estate in Banbury. Whether you call them steel gates, metal gates or wrought iron gates, they do two jobs at once: they secure a boundary and they set the first impression of a property, so we make both gate and railings to measure rather than fitting stock panels. Because the same firm draws, fabricates, galvanises and hangs the gate, the posts, hinges and railing line all match, and the finished job arrives true rather than needing packing and adjustment on site. We supply homeowners, estates and commercial or industrial sites across Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.

Bespoke steel gates we make

Every gate is fabricated to your opening, your design and your level of security, in mild steel for structural strength and stainless steel where an exposed finish matters.

  • Driveway gates in single, double and sliding configurations, contemporary flat-bar or traditional designs. See our dedicated driveway steel gates page for the full range.
  • Garden and side gates in metal or traditional wrought iron styles, sized to a pedestrian opening, side passage or courtyard, with matching railings where the boundary continues.
  • Estate gates in heavier sections for long approaches, parkland boundaries and period properties, with matching estate railings to carry the line along the boundary.
  • Electric and automated gate frames built automation-ready: hinged for ram or underground operators, or fabricated as sliding gates with track and rack, then coordinated with your automation installer for the supply and wiring.
  • Security gates and grilles for commercial yards, industrial units and outbuildings, where the priority is keeping people and plant out.

If you are not sure which type suits the opening, send rough dimensions and a photo and we will advise before quoting.

Steel railings and handrails

Railings define a boundary, protect a level change or finish a balcony, and we fabricate the full range of metal railings and handrails to match the property rather than the catalogue.

  • Balcony railings and balustrades for Juliet and full balconies, in steel or steel-and-glass combinations.
  • Garden and terrace railings to enclose patios, raised beds and boundary walls.
  • Estate railings in traditional finial or contemporary flat-bar designs, scaled to the run.
  • Commercial handrails to suit access routes, ramps and steps, where the handrail has to be robust and consistent.

Where railings sit alongside a staircase or balcony package, we fabricate them as one job through our wider architectural steelwork so the details line up.

Security fencing

For sites that need more than a gate, we also fabricate and install security steel fencing: palisade, bow-top and bespoke welded panels for commercial and industrial perimeters. The gate, fencing and any access controls can be made and finished together so the whole boundary matches. Our security steel fencing page covers the perimeter side in full.

Bespoke fabrication, finish and installation

External steelwork lives or dies by its finish. We hot-dip galvanise as standard for outdoor gates, railings and fencing, which protects the steel inside and out, then add an optional powder-coat top layer in any RAL colour where you want a specific finish. A galvanised and powder-coated gate, hung on properly fabricated and set posts, should run for decades without corroding.

The whole job stays under one roof. We take the dimensions from a site survey or your drawings, fabricate in our Banbury workshop, apply the finish, then our own team installs the gate, sets the posts true and hangs it so it swings or slides cleanly. Because we control the work from drawing to final bolt, the railing line is level, the gate gaps are even, and there is no gap in responsibility if anything needs adjusting. For the engineering behind it, see our wider steel fabrication service, or browse completed work on our projects page.

T C Rowan is CE approved and works to BS EN 1090 execution standards, with qualified, coded welders and full insurance. We are a family-run fabricator, so the person who quotes your gate is connected to the team that makes and hangs it.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make and fit automated or electric gates?

Yes. We fabricate gates automation-ready: hinged versions are built to suit ram or underground operators, and sliding gates are made with the track and rack ready for automation. We then coordinate with your automation installer for the motor, wiring and access controls so the gate and its system work together. If you only need a manual gate now but may automate later, tell us at the design stage and we will build in the allowance.

Do you make metal garden gates and wrought iron gates?

Yes. Alongside driveway and estate gates we make metal garden gates, side gates and traditional wrought iron gate designs to measure, in mild or stainless steel, galvanised and powder-coated for outdoor use. Send the opening size and a design idea and we will price it. The same workshop makes the matching metal railings so the gate and boundary line up.

Will the gate and railings rust?

Not for a long time if they are finished correctly, which is why we hot-dip galvanise external steelwork as standard. Galvanising coats the steel inside and out, and an optional powder-coat top layer in any RAL colour adds the look you want over the top. Galvanised and coated steel, hung on properly set posts, should not need attention for decades.

Do you cover the whole boundary, including fencing?

Yes. As well as gates and railings we fabricate and install security steel fencing, including palisade, bow-top and bespoke welded panels for commercial and industrial perimeters. Making the gate, railings and fencing together means one matching finish and one point of responsibility for the whole boundary.
